IMPLEMENTASI KOMPRES HANGAT DALAM MENURUNKAN HIPERTERMI PADA ANAK USIA PRASEKOLAH DENGAN DEMAM THYPOID

Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever is a systemic infectious disease caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, which attacks the digestive system and is transmitted through food and drinks contaminated by the bacteria. Objective: To determine the implementation of warm compresses in reducing hyperthermia in preschool children with typhoid fever in the Parkit room of Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar. Method: A descriptive case study was carried out on two preschool children who had typhoid fever and met the inclusion criteria. The intervention was warm compresses for three days. Data were collected through observation and interviews. Results: From the results of the implementation for three days, both subjects showed a decrease in body temperature, although there was a difference in the decrease in temperature. In subject I, a decrease in body temperature was observed on the first day, namely 2.5°C, and on the second day 1.7°C, but on the third day, there was no decrease in temperature. In subject II, the decrease in body temperature on the first day was 1.4°C, the second day 1.2°C, and the third day 1.6°C. Conclusion: The results of the case study show that the implementation of warm compresses for three days can help lower body temperature between 1.2°C-2.5°C in preschool children with typhoid fever.
