Abstract

Background: School-age children are children who are in late childhood, which lasts from 6 to 12 years of age, who need support, especially when facing special conditions such as hospitalization. Objective: To determine the application of storytelling therapy to reduce the effects of hospitalization in school-age children undergoing treatment at Pelamonia Class II Hospital, Makassar. Method: This study uses a descriptive case study approach involving two school-age children who were hospitalized. The study was conducted for three days from April 16 to 18, 2025. Both subjects received storytelling therapy for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 30 minutes. Data were collected through interviews and observations, then analyzed descriptively. Results: After the application of storytelling therapy for three days, a decrease in anxiety scores was found in both respondents. On the first day after the intervention, both respondents were observed to experience moderate anxiety with the same score of 21. On the second day, respondent I still experienced mild anxiety with a score of 14, while respondent II did not experience anxiety with a score of 12. Meanwhile, on the third day, both respondents no longer experienced anxiety with anxiety scores of 10 and 8, respectively. Conclusion: Storytelling therapy for three days can help reduce the effects of hospitalization in school-age children undergoing treatment in the hospital.
